Hesse promotes cycling
If you want to travel through Hesse, you can also use your own drive: Commuters as well as leisure and transit travellers can reach their destination safely by bike. This is because there are more than 15,000 kilometres of cycling network for cyclists in the towns and municipalities of Hesse, with long-distance cycle paths alone measuring 3,300 kilometres. The State of Hesse is investing in the construction of new cycle paths on Germany's federal and state roads. It promotes the construction of municipal cycle paths and thus makes a significant contribution to improving mobility in the local area.
Planning cycle routes
Why not plan your next cycle tour online with our cycle route planner? You can choose whether you want to filter one of the recommended routes by landscape or sights or whether you want to put together your own customised tour. The planner is particularly user-friendly thanks to the mobile applications. Install the app on your smartphone and let it navigate you to the most beautiful routes in Hesse. The site also provides helpful service tips along the route: bike hire, accommodation and restaurants as well as local transport connections.
Honoured as a commuter
Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir is the patron of the Cycle to Work campaign. In this competition organised by the ADFC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad Club) and the AOK, every kilometre cycled counts. Anyone who ditches the car more often in summer and cycles to work can take part.
Information on cycle path planning
Do you want to extend the cycle paths in your municipality? Read the central handbook (PDF) to find out how your transport infrastructure project can be subsidised. Current information on the construction of cycle paths and upcoming projects can be found at Hessen Mobil.
