Receiving or requesting pension information

Pension information provides you with an overview of the rights you have acquired and the amount of old-age pension that you can expect to receive. Pension information includes, among other things:

• a statement of the contributions you have paid to date,
• an indication of the value of the pension rights you have acquired, in respect of both an old-age pension and a pension for reduced earning capacity, and
• an estimate of your old-age pension entitlements as of the date on which you become eligible for an ordinary old-age pension.

The estimate is based on your average payment contribution over the last five calendar years. Pension information thus represents an important basis for planning your additional private and company old-age pension schemes.

The first pension information you receive will also include a statement of your insurance history. This will show you the periods and earnings recorded in your pension insurance account.

Note: Pension information is also sent abroad. If you live abroad, however, this information will cease to be automatically sent if you have not paid German pension insurance contributions for more than three years.

• You are or were insured with the German Pension Insurance Fund.
• You are at least 27 years old.
• You have paid statutory pension insurance contributions for at least 5 years.
• You do not yet receive a pension from your own insurance fund.

You will receive your pension information by post automatically each year, provided that you meet the requirements. You do not need to submit an application. However, you may also make an informal request for pension information at any time.

If you wish to receive your pension information by post, you may also request this online without further registration:

• Visit the website of the German Pension Insurance Fund and click on "Online-Dienste" [Online services]. Select "Online-Dienste ohne Registrierung" [Online services without registration] from the drop-down menu and click on "Versicherungsunterlagen anfordern" [Request insurance documents].
• Select "Renteninformation" [Pension information] in the field "Anforderung von…" [Request of ...] and enter the remaining information.
• Click on "Absenden" [Submit].
• You will receive your pension information by post.

If you wish to receive your pension information directly online, you must first register online:

• Visit the website of the German Pension Insurance Fund and click on "Online-Dienste" [Online services].
• Select "Online-Dienste mit Registrierung" [Online services with registration] from the drop-down menu. You may then register using either:
  • your personal identity card (eID) or your residence permit (eAT) with an activated electronic identification function, or
  • your electronic signature card.
• Your pension information will then be shown to you onscreen. If your pension information is currently being processed or contains implausible data, nothing will be shown onscreen. You will be informed if this is the case.

The amounts listed in the pension information provided are gross values. Health and nursing care insurance contributions and tax, where applicable, are still to be deducted from the pension amount shown.
