Further training in nursing; application for recognition of an equivalent qualification

If you have completed comparable further training in nursing outside Bavaria (in another federal state or abroad) or have passed an examination elsewhere, you can apply to the VdPB for recognition of your qualification.

The Association of Nurses in Bavaria is the competent authority for module recognition and equalization of qualifications in Bavaria.

In Bavaria, further nursing training for facility management, nursing service management, practical guidance and geriatric psychiatric nursing and care is regulated within the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Nursing and Residential Quality Act and Further Training in Nursing and Midwifery (AVPfleWoqG). The further training courses serve to specialize in certain specialist areas in nursing care in order to be able to provide qualified personnel in these areas.

Upon application, successfully completed modules from other further training courses or degree courses or comparable qualifications can be credited to the further training courses, provided the content is equivalent. This will be checked by the VdPB.

If you have completed comparable further training for facility management, nursing service management, practical guidance and geriatric psychiatric nursing and care or have otherwise obtained a comparable qualification, you can apply to the VdPB for equivalence of the qualification.

The admission requirements for the respective further training are regulated in accordance with Sections 70, 74, 78 and 82 of the Ordinance on the Implementation of the AVPfleWoqG.

Equivalent qualifications according to § 56 para. 1 AVPfleWoqG

If they are comparable and have been successfully completed, the following further training courses are deemed equivalent to further training:

• Further training in accordance with the legal and administrative regulations of the federal government or the federal states
• Further training in accordance with the recommendations of the German Hospital Association (DKG)
• Further training in accordance with the further training concepts recommended by the Bavarian State Nursing Committee. However, only if this was started on 01.09.2011.

The equivalence of further training courses is determined by the VdPB.

Degree programs can only be equated with continuing education upon application by the university (§ 56 para. 3 AVPfleWoqG). You can find the recognized further education institutions and equivalent courses of study on the homepage of the Association of Nurses in Bavaria (see further links).

The documents required are based on the continuing education course for which equivalence is to be granted.

The costs for the recognition of equivalence depend on the scope of the respective examination and range between EUR 50.00 and EUR 250.00.
