Climate protection; application for a grant

Municipalities can apply for funding for strategic and investment projects to protect the climate and tackle the consequences of climate change.

Purpose

The grant is intended in particular to support municipalities in the systematic preparation and implementation of projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a view to achieving climate neutrality and climate adaptation.

Object

Funding is provided for

• The introduction, expansion and continuation of energy management in public buildings,
• the creation, expansion and updating of concepts for the reduction of greenhouse gases (climate protection concept) and for climate adaptation,
• participation in quality management procedures related to climate protection,
• the establishment of a coordination office for climate protection (climate protection pilot),
• the creation of mobility concepts to present climate-friendly mobility options,
• other climate-related concepts aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions,
• Implementation projects for the systematic reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, in particular the refurbishment of outdoor and street lighting, traffic signal systems, indoor and indoor lighting in public buildings,
• Implementation projects for climate adaptation.

Eligible applicants

Bavarian municipalities, their associations and municipal companies as well as partners of the Bavarian Climate Alliance can receive grants.

Type and scope

Funding is provided on a project basis (project funding) and by way of proportional funding with the following funding rates:

• up to 50% (for municipalities in combination with the federal government's municipal guideline and for partners of the Bavarian Climate Alliance)
• up to 70 % (for municipalities and their associations)
• up to 90% (for municipalities and their associations in areas with a particular need for action)

• Cost calculation

Implementation projects must have been identified as an option for action as part of a corresponding concept. Implementation projects for the systematic reduction of greenhouse gas emissions must demonstrate greenhouse gas savings of at least 50%.

Current information: No new applications for funding from the KommKlimaFöR are currently being accepted. However, applications that have already been submitted will continue to be processed. KommKlimaFöR 2023 will probably no longer be open, a successor program is being planned.

Applications for funding must be submitted in writing:

• to the government of Upper Bavaria by grant recipients based in Upper Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate,
• to the government of Swabia by grant recipients based in Swabia and Lower Bavaria, and
• at the government of Lower Franconia by grant recipients based in Lower, Middle and Upper Franconia.

The responsible government will also provide

• information on the documents to be submitted with the funding application,
• decides on the funding application and
• is also available to answer your questions during the further course of the procedure.

Funding will only be provided for projects for which the relevant government has received a corresponding funding application by 31.12.2026 at the latest.

Funding applications are processed quickly and completed as soon as possible with the issue of a corresponding decision (grant notification). An average processing time can therefore be expected.
