Eye test centers; application for official recognition

Anyone wishing to carry out eye tests to obtain a driver's license who is not already considered an officially recognized eye test centre under the provisions of the Driving Licence Ordinance requires recognition by the respective government in accordance with Section 67 (1) of the Driving Licence Ordinance (FeV). Pursuant to Section 67 (4) and (5) FeV, officially recognized vision testing centres are opticians' businesses, assessment centres for driving fitness, doctors from the public health department or other doctors from the public administration as well as doctors with the specialty title "occupational medicine" or doctors with the additional title "occupational medicine". Officially recognized vision testing centres may carry out vision tests and issue vision test certificates that must be presented to a driver's license authority for the issue of a driver's license for categories AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, L or T.

1. The applicant must provide proof of their reliability.
2. Trained personnel must be available to carry out the eye tests.
3. An eye test device in accordance with DIN 58220 Part 6, September 2013 edition, as well as premises suitable as an eye test center must be available.
4. Regular medical supervision of the performance must be ensured.

An application with all supporting documents must be submitted to the responsible government.

The online procedure offered by the governments for this purpose can be used not only to apply online for official recognition of an eye test center, but also for an extension and changes/additions to existing recognition. It can also be used to report the cessation of activities online.

Framework fee: 51.10 to 307.00 €

• simple certificate of good conduct of the applicant, not older than three months
• Proof of the required expertise of the vision screening personnel
• Proof of vision screening device according to DIN 58220 part 6, edition September 2013
• Confirmation from a doctor that he or she will provide supervision
• Documents relating to the premises designated as an eye test center.
