Families in need; applying for help

Families, especially large families and single parents, who have found themselves in an existentially threatening emergency through no fault of their own, can receive benefits from the "Landesstiftung Hilfe für Mutter und Kind" (State Foundation for Mother and Child Support) to help them help themselves.

Purpose

The foundation's services are intended to provide tangible relief to families who find themselves in an emergency situation through no fault of their own (e.g. due to illness, death of a family member, unemployment, etc.) when public and private assistance is lacking or insufficient. The aim of the "Landesstiftung Hilfe für Mutter und Kind" foundation is to help people to help themselves.

Object

The purpose of the support is to finance necessary purchases (furniture, clothing, school materials), avoid homelessness (rent deposit, estate agent's fee, first month's rent), reduce debt obligations (under special conditions) and cover other needs as agreed.

Type and amount

The funding is granted as a subsidy.

Funding is provided in the form of earmarked grants subject to a condition subsequent or, in justified exceptional cases, as an interest-free loan. The amount of funding depends on the necessary requirements and the particular circumstances of the individual case. As a rule, up to 4,000 euros can be granted. In special exceptional cases, up to 10,500 euros can be granted, in cases of housing procurement up to 15,500 euros.

Priority will be given to supporting

• Families after multiple births of triplets or more,
• Families after the birth of the sixth or a further child,
• Families with three or more children in need,
• single parents in need with at least one child.

In addition, assistance can be provided in exceptional cases to remedy an obviously serious emergency.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• emergency situation through no fault of their own
• willingness to cooperate in solving the problem
• a lasting consolidation of the economic and social situation is to be expected
• statutory benefits and other assistance not provided or not sufficient
• Endorsement by a suitable institution
• at least six months of permanent residence in Bavaria
• at least one family member has German citizenship
• Support is within the limits of § 53 of the Tax Code

There is no legal entitlement to this benefit, so there is no possibility of legal recourse.

Those seeking help can contact the "Landesstiftung Hilfe für Mutter und Kind" (foundation administration) directly and an application will be sent if there is a prospect of success.

The locally responsible municipality, the social welfare authorities, the youth welfare offices, the district offices/health authorities, the state-recognized advice centres for pregnancy issues or other public institutions that are committed to remedying or alleviating the emergency situation also accept the completed forms as messengers and forward them to the foundation.

Those seeking assistance must provide suitable evidence. In appropriate cases, the benefits should be paid out in installments.
