Private alternative schools; application for reimbursement of school fees

The Free State of Bavaria grants school fee reimbursement for pupils at private alternative schools in accordance with Art. 47 BaySchFG.

For pupils attending state-approved secondary schools, grammar schools, vocational schools and second-chance schools, the Free State of Bavaria reimburses the school fees of legal guardians or pupils of legal age up to the amount specified in Art. 47 Para. 3 BaySchFG per calendar month. For pupils attending a state-approved alternative school of the above-mentioned school types, the state reimburses the school fees up to 70% of the school fee reimbursement for state-approved schools.

The application is made by the respective school authority.

• State recognition or state approval of the school
• Existence of a valid school contract
• Charging of school fees
• Written agreement with the beneficiaries on the amount of the tuition fee reimbursement and the fact that it will be offset against the tuition fee claim.
• No other public funding to replace the school fees

The application for school fee reductions must be submitted in writing by the respective school authority to the Bavarian State Office for Schools. After examination, the State Office decides on the approval of the statutory benefits. If approved, the school authorities receive advance payments in November, February and May (§ 22 AVBaySchFG).

At the end of the school year, a further application (final statement) must be submitted with a list of pupils by name, stating the number of months for which school fees were payable and the target amount of school fee compensation. Once the final statement has been completed, the final payment is made by the State Office for Schools.

The application for payment on account must be submitted by October 10 of each year, stating the number of pupils on October 1 and the amount of the monthly school fees.

To ensure that the final payment can be made promptly, the application for final settlement must be submitted together with the list of pupils as soon as possible after the end of the school year, but no later than October 15.
