Vacation or holidaymaker's permit for Lake Constance; application

An official certificate of competence issued by one of the countries bordering Lake Constance, but which is not valid for Lake Constance, can be recognized for a limited period upon request.

Anyone who does not have a Lake Constance skipper's license can obtain a temporary vacation or vacation skipper's license (temporary Lake Constance skipper's license) to operate a boat on Lake Constance. It is valid for 30 days at a time within a calendar year and is only issued once a year.

Note: You generally require a Lake Constance boating license to operate a vessel registered on Lake Constance if

• the ship or boat is powered by an engine and the engine power exceeds 4.4 kilowatts
• the sailboat has more than 12 square meters of sail area.

The vessel must have a license or registration for Lake Constance regardless of the temporary Lake Constance skipper's license.

• a clearly legible photocopy of your skipper's certificate

Prerequisites for the vacation or vacationer's license are

1) You hold a skipper's license from one of the countries on the shores of Lake Constance:

• Switzerland
• Austria
• Germany

2) You hold at least one of the following patents:

• as recognition for sailing:
  • Sport boat license inland under sail
  • A-license of the DSV issued until March 31, 1989
  • Sport coaster license
• as recognition for motor:
  • Sport boat license inland under engine
  • Sport boat license sea
  • Motorboat license A for inland navigation
• as recognition for sailing and motor:
  • Sport boat license inland under sail and motor
• depending on the category of the license:
  • Pleasure craft license issued since December 1, 1992
  • Pleasure craft license issued since October 1, 1992

You must apply for a vacation or vacation permit from the relevant office before you go on vacation. State the exact address and the period for temporary recognition in your application.

The processing time depends on the individual case and is usually completed within one week.

The fees for the Lake Constance skipper's license are set by the Lindau (Lake Constance) District Office. The fee for recognition is 12.50 euros.
