Passport; information on the processing status

If you have applied for a passport, you can find out about the processing status.

After applying for a passport, Bundesdruckerei GmbH is commissioned by the passport authority to issue the passport. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, it usually takes at least two weeks from the date of application until you can collect your passport from the Citizens' Registration Office. In some cases, however, it can take several weeks. Please contact your local passport office for information on the current average production time.

The applicant will be informed by the passport authority as soon as the passport is ready for collection.

Some municipalities provide an online service for checking passport status (see "Online procedure" if applicable). Here you can find out online whether the passport you have applied for is ready or the current processing status.
