Identity card; information on the processing status

If you have applied for an ID card, you can find out about the processing status.

After applying for an ID card, Bundesdruckerei GmbH is commissioned by the ID card authority to issue the card. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, it usually takes at least two weeks from the date of application before you can collect your ID card from the Citizens' Registration Office. In some cases, however, it can take several weeks. Please check the current average production time with your local ID card authority.

The applicant will be informed as soon as the ID card is ready for collection from the ID card office.

Some municipalities provide an online service for checking the status of ID cards (see "Online procedure" if applicable). Here you can find out online whether the ID card you have applied for is ready or the current processing status.
