Citizens who would like to volunteer can obtain advice from volunteer agencies, volunteer centers and civic engagement coordination centers throughout Bavaria.

Civic engagement is a voluntary and unpaid donation of time by citizens. An activity is voluntary if it is carried out voluntarily and unpaid, serves the common good and is not for profit. The reimbursement of expenses incurred by volunteers in carrying out their activities does not affect whether they are unpaid.

In Bavaria, volunteer agencies, volunteer centers and civic engagement coordination centers are available to provide advice on volunteering as a cross-field infrastructure in districts and independent cities. Their tasks include the county-wide networking of associations and initiatives, volunteer coordination, advice for interested citizens and organizations, qualification offers, organization of specialist lectures, insurance issues as well as local needs assessment and public relations work.
