Fire protection; application for recognition as a test expert

You can apply for recognition as a test expert for fire protection at the Bavarian Chamber of Architects. You are then authorized to issue test certificates.

Fire safety experts certify in their specialist area on behalf of the building owner or other person responsible under building regulations. The inspection experts are independent within the scope of their duties and are not bound by instructions from the client.

Recognized fire safety inspection experts check the completeness and correctness of the fire safety certificates and monitor the proper execution of construction work with regard to the implementation of the fire safety certificates certified by them.

The registration committee at the Bavarian Chamber of Architects examines and decides on recognition.

• Degree certificate from the university
• Proof of at least five years' experience in the fire protection planning and execution of buildings or their testing

  For this purpose, 4-5 fire protection certificates or concepts should be submitted, each dealing with different special building situations with a higher degree of fire protection difficulty.

  Proof of application for a certificate of good conduct for submission to a public authority, which should not be older than three months

• Information on any participation in a company whose purpose is the planning and execution of construction projects.

Test experts for fire protection must:

• have a good command of written and spoken German,
• offer a personal guarantee that they will carry out their duties properly, i.e. they must act impartially, conscientiously, on their own responsibility and independently in compliance with building regulations,
• have the ability to hold public office,
• have their registered office or a branch office in the Free State of Bavaria,
• have liability insurance with a liability sum of at least € 500,000 each for personal injury, property damage and financial loss per claim, which must be available at least twice per insurance year.

Fire safety experts must also prove that they:

• as a member of the field of architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering or a course of study with a focus on fire protection, they have a degree from a German university, an equivalent degree from a foreign university or are qualified for an office of at least grade A 10 in the specialist career path of science and technology - specialist focus on fire department,
• then at least five years of experience in the fire protection planning and execution of buildings, in particular special buildings of various types with a higher degree of fire protection difficulty or their inspection, as well as
• have the necessary knowledge in the field of fire protection, the fire behavior of building products and types of construction, plant-related fire protection and the relevant building regulations

The application must be submitted exclusively online to the Bavarian Chamber of Architects. You will be kept informed of the processing status and any documents that may be required.

In order to prove the required knowledge in the field of fire protection, the fire behavior of building products and types of construction, the technical fire protection and the relevant building regulations, an examination is carried out.

The statutory processing time is three months after receipt of the application and submission of the complete documents. The processing time can be extended once by one month.
