District chimney sweep; application for appointment

Appointment as an authorized district chimney sweep takes place after a tendering and selection procedure has been carried out.

From 01.01.2013, §§ 9, 9a and 10 of the Chimney Sweep Crafts Act apply to the selection and appointment of so-called "authorized district chimney sweeps". According to these, you must take part in a tendering procedure if you wish to apply for a district.

Tenders for vacant districts are published on the websites of the responsible governments. Applicants are selected on the basis of their suitability, qualifications and professional performance. A standardized evaluation form applies throughout Bavaria (see "Forms").

The appointment as an authorized district chimney sweep for the advertised districts is limited to seven years, but ends at the latest at the end of the month in which the applicant reaches the age of 67.

Authorized district chimney sweeps can apply for an extension of their appointment beyond the age limit if they are in good health.

The applicant must meet the legal requirements for the independent exercise of the chimney sweep trade, guarantee the personal and professional reliability required to carry out the activity and be in good health. Applicants who have acquired their professional qualification abroad must have the knowledge of the German language required to work as a master district chimney sweep.

The submission deadline for an advertised district is included in the invitation to tender.

The fee for appointment as an authorized district chimney sweep is 250 euros.

  (give details of previous vocational training and professional experience)

• Proof that the requirements for entry in the register of skilled crafts are met
• Certificates of the journeyman's examination and the master craftsman's examination or of equivalent qualifications
• Documents and certificates in certified translation according to § 6 of the EU/EEA Handicraft Regulation

  (if the professional qualification was obtained in another Member State of the European Union or a State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland)

• Evidence of previous chimney sweeping activities and job-related further and advanced training measures
• Certificate of good conduct for submission to a public authority and extract from the Central Trade Register
• Declaration as to whether the applicant has been convicted of a criminal offence within the last twelve months, whether criminal proceedings are pending or whether the applicant is aware of any pending investigations
• Furthermore, reference is made to the requirement text with notes, a sample declaration on the personal requirements and a sample confirmation for voluntary active service with a volunteer fire brigade or plant fire brigade.
