Water supply; application for exemption or partial exemption from the obligation to connect and use water

The property connection is used to connect your property to the public water supply system.

If your municipality has provided for this in its water supply regulations, properties that are connected to a public water supply facility must generally also be connected to this facility and use it. This obligation is referred to as the so-called connection and usage obligation.

The possibility of imposing such an obligation on property owners for reasons of public welfare is regulated by law in the municipal code (GO). Article 24 Para. 1 No. 2 GO allows the municipalities to fulfill this task using this route. This provision forms the basis for corresponding local regulations in the municipal water supply bylaws for ordering the compulsory connection and use.

Under certain conditions, however, property owners can also be fully or partially exempted from the obligation to connect or use water or be granted a restriction on the obligation to use water. The conditions for this are usually regulated in more detail in the local water supply regulations.
