Studio prize; application
Description
From 2025, the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts will award up to 30 freelance visual artists with a studio in Bavaria with 8,000 euros each year for their artistic work, subject to the funds available in the budget.
The competition is aimed at visual artists who, due to their artistic work to date, have been a particular enrichment to the Bavarian art and culture scene and show particular potential for development. The awards are intended to enable artists to devote themselves to the development of their artistic work under easier economic and material conditions.

Prerequisites
Applications are open to professional, freelance visual artists who have had their main place of residence in Bavaria for at least two years and are mainly active in Bavaria, e.g. who maintain a studio or project space in Bavaria.
There is no age limit, but the ability to develop the artistic oeuvre as a whole should be taken into account in the selection process.
A new application is only possible in the third cycle after receiving an award. The award will not be presented more than twice to the same applicant.

Procedure
Interested parties can submit their application documents together with the application form provided for this purpose exclusively by electronic means to the Berufsverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Landesverband (BBK LV) by the specified deadline.
The Bavarian State Minister for Science and the Arts decides on the awarding of the prizes on the recommendation of a jury. The jury consists of five experts who have an overview of artistic creation in Bavaria and should come from different Bavarian regions or other federal states.
There is no legal entitlement to an award.
One year after receiving the award, a progress report is requested on the artistic work carried out since then and, if applicable, its development and future prospects.
Deadlines
The application deadline is announced at the beginning of each calendar year on the website of the Berufsverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Landesverband Bayern e. V. (Professional Association of Visual Artists Bavaria).

- A letter of motivation in which you explain
- how you intend to develop your artistic work in the future,
- how you want to make your work visible (e.g. details of physical and/or media publicity, mediation work, collaborations, creation of art spaces)
- Proof of artistic professionalism through completed artistic training or at least three years of professional exhibition activity
- Proof of full-time freelance artistic activity
