Health education and advice; utilization of and information on self-help

The health authorities advise people who suffer from an addiction, mental or chronic illness or a disability and people who are at risk of this. The health authorities provide information on where they can obtain further help.

Self-help groups are voluntary associations of people who are affected by a mental illness, addiction, chronic illness or disability, for example. They offer those affected the opportunity to exchange ideas, support each other and find advice.

The health authorities can help you find and contact self-help groups locally or in your area. The advice offered by the health authorities is aimed equally at those directly affected and at people who are not yet suffering from a chronic physical or mental illness or impairment but who may be at risk of doing so. The specific help offered can therefore be of a preventative, supportive or aftercare nature.
