Radiation protection; application for the certificate for the required expertise

If you work in the technical field of radiation protection (e.g. operating X-ray equipment or handling radioactive substances), you must provide proof of the necessary specialist knowledge. You can apply for this from the competent authority.

If you intend to operate X-ray equipment or handle radioactive substances, you will need a certificate of competence from the competent authority for radiation protection as proof of the specialist knowledge you have acquired.
To do this, you must first successfully complete a recognized course to acquire the specialist knowledge. You can then apply for a certificate of specialist knowledge with additional documents.

  • Proof of suitable training for the respective area of application
  • Proof of practical experience (certificate of competence)
  • Proof of successful participation in recognized courses (must not date back more than 5 years).

• You have the appropriate training for the respective field of application.
• You can demonstrate the necessary practical experience.
• You have successfully completed a course to acquire the required specialist knowledge.

• Once you have successfully completed a recognized course to acquire specialist knowledge, you apply to the competent authority for a certificate of the required specialist knowledge.
• It is also possible that the competent authority will approach you and ask you to submit proof of the required specialist knowledge.
• The authority will check your documents and the requirements and send you the certificate of the required specialist knowledge if the check is positive.
