Pilot's license; application for extension, renewal or extension of permit or authorization

Permits for pilots are issued for an unlimited period. However, the authorizations entered therein are usually limited in time and must be renewed regularly.

Permits for glider and balloon pilots are issued for an unlimited period. However, the rights of these permits may only be exercised if the permit holder can prove a certain minimum level of flying experience within a certain period of time.

Permits for powered aircraft pilots and helicopter pilots are also issued for an unlimited period of time. However, the authorizations entered therein are generally limited in time and must be extended. Different requirements apply to the extension depending on the rating.

Technical requirements

Depending on the permit and rating, proof of a certain number of flying hours, take-offs and landings as well as training flights with a flight instructor or examiner or a proficiency check with a recognized examiner.

The application must be submitted to the aviation authority together with the documents listed there. After the documents have been checked, the requested entry is made in the private pilot license.

Authorizations must be renewed before they expire. An authorization that has expired can only be renewed under more difficult conditions.
