Description
Commercial pest control may only be carried out if, among other things, proof of expertise for a sub-area of pest control has been provided to the competent authority in accordance with the "Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS 523)".
For example, a competent person is someone who
- the recognized qualification "certified pest controller" or
- has passed the examination for assistant or master pest control technician under the law no longer in force in the old federal states or under the law of the former GDR or
- has demonstrably acquired comparable expertise in a member state of the European Union.

Vocational retraining with subsequent examination to become a "certified pest controller" was possible until 2004. Since August 1, 2004, there has been vocational training to become a pest controller. This lasts 3 years and concludes with a corresponding examination at a vocational college after practical and theoretical training units.
