Description
As a private or commercial animal owner, you are obliged to notify certain animal diseases to the competent authority. However, it is not only the outbreak (i.e. the detection of the disease by a veterinarian) that must be notified, but also the mere suspicion of an outbreak.

General information
Obligation to notify animal diseases
In the Federal Republic of Germany, there is an obligation to report certain animal diseases due to their high risk of spreading and infection or the high economic damage they cause or the risks they pose to human health.
The occurrence or suspected occurrence of these diseases in the district of Verden must be reported immediately to the district's veterinary and consumer protection department. Persons who look after the animals (animal owners) or handle animals professionally or in their leisure time (e.g. vets, shepherds, beekeepers, hunters, insemination technicians, animal transporters) are obliged to notify the authorities.
Official veterinary examinations
In the event of a suspected epidemic, the official veterinarian takes the necessary measures. The suspected or diseased animals and livestock are examined by an official veterinarian. After the official determination of the suspicion or outbreak of an animal disease, the prescribed control measures are organized and carried out.

Procedure
The following information is helpful for an advertisement:
- Which plague is suspected or what symptoms occur?
- Species, number and location of animals
- Owners of the animals
- Have measures already been taken? If so, which ones?
- Were animals bought or sold?
In addition, you must immediately take all possible measures to prevent the spread of the disease, such as housing animals, separating "suspicious" animals from the others, making sure that no animals leave the site.
After notification, the suspicion is investigated by the competent authority. If it is indeed an animal disease, the necessary countermeasures (e.g. quarantine) are taken in individual cases.

Notes (specifics)
According to the Animal Health Act (TierGesG), compensation can be granted by the Tierseuchenkasse for losses in livestock caused by animal diseases. However, this is subject to the condition that the disease notification has been made immediately and that the number of kept farm animals (horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry) is reported to the Tierseuchenkasse at least annually and that the annual contribution has been paid.
