The license is granted if you

• have passed the state examination as a surgical assistant following training,
• have not been guilty of any conduct that makes you unreliable to practice the profession,
• are medically fit to practise the profession,
• have the necessary knowledge of the German language to exercise the profession.

• Proof of the state examination certificate, if already issued, or notification of the determination of the equivalence of the foreign professional qualification
• Proof of identity (copy of valid ID/passport/residence permit)
• official certificate of good conduct for submission to the authorities, not older than 3 months at the time the permit is issued
• Medical certificate stating that you are not medically unfit to practise the profession (if applicable, extracts from the criminal records of all countries in which you have resided within the last 5 years)
• Sample declaration of criminal proceedings, if applicable
• Confirmation that you have the necessary knowledge of the German language to carry out the professional activity (certificate of language proficiency of at least level B2 and

You must apply for a permit from the competent authority in advance.

Once you have submitted the application and all documents are complete, the competent authority will check whether you meet all the requirements.

If you meet all the requirements, you will receive the permit.

You may only start working once you have received the permit.
