State recognition of a Berufsakademie and Bachelor's training courses

In some federal states, it is possible to study at vocational academies. However, non-state academies must be recognized in advance in order to use the designation "Berufsakademie".

The establishment of a Berufsakademie requires state recognition by the ministry. The introduction of new bachelor's training courses and the substantial modification of existing training courses also require state recognition.

In order to be recognized as a Berufsakademie and to be able to offer Bachelor's degree programs, different requirements must be met. This includes, among other things, that there is a training plan between the Berufsakademie and companies and that a sufficient number of pedagogically suitable teachers as well as the necessary spatial and material equipment is available. In addition, it must be proven that the existence of the Berufsakademie is financially secure for the duration of the training of the respective students according to a financing plan of its sponsor.

The first step is to contact the ministry. An essential basis for the state recognition of the Berufsakademie are the planned Bachelor's training courses. Therefore, the next step is the accreditation of the programs. For this purpose, the accreditation agency must be coordinated with the line ministry in advance.

After completion of the accreditation procedure, the application for state recognition of the educational institution and the Bachelor's degree courses follows. Essential prerequisites are, in particular, proof of sufficient staffing and financial security of the institution.

Duration (with a fixed time): For accreditation alone, a period of around one year can be expected, including the preparatory measures and the approval procedure, a total of around 1.5-2 years is to be calculated.
