Encourage the installation of traffic signs

Would you like to defuse a road hazard? Then you can suggest the installation of a new traffic sign.

Traffic on public roads is regulated by traffic signs and traffic facilities for reasons of safety and order, climate and environmental protection, health and urban development.

Traffic signs include, for example

• Traffic signs
• road markings

Traffic facilities are for example

• red and white striped barriers
• Barrier posts and railings
• parking ticket machines

The local road traffic authority decides where traffic signs and traffic facilities are to be installed.

If you as a citizen notice a place where you think a traffic sign should be placed, you can suggest it.

This could be, for example:

• defusing danger spots and accident blackspots
• a new pedestrian traffic light
• more clarity in traffic routing
• Protection of children in front of daycare centers and schools

You can submit your proposal for the installation of a new traffic sign or a new traffic facility to the relevant road traffic authority. In doing so, you explain the reasons for your proposal. The road traffic authority will then check whether it will order the traffic sign or traffic device.

The local road traffic authority is responsible.

In addition to the reasons you see for installing traffic signs and traffic facilities, you must provide a precise local description of where you want to install a traffic sign/a traffic facilitywould like to have installed. If necessary, you can also submit photos and sketches.

Submit the application in writing. You do not have to adhere to a specific application form. The local road traffic authority will review your proposal.

There are no deadlines to observe.

Depending on the individual case and the complexity of the traffic situation, the review and decision may vary in terms of time/individual.
