Applying for a change of school type to an integrated comprehensive school

If your child attends a Realschule plus or a Gymnasium and would like to transfer to an integrated comprehensive school, this is possible under certain conditions.

In principle, the admission of your child to an integrated comprehensive school is only possible immediately after attending primary school in grade 5. However, within the limits of the school's capacity, pupils can also be admitted at a later date.

If you change schools, your child's necessary data will be passed on from the school to the new school. The Integrated Comprehensive School requires the last available certificate from the school previously attended. Please inquire at the Integrated Comprehensive School what other documents are required for the admission decision in each individual case.

The voluntary change from a Realschule plus or from a Gymnasium to an Integrated Comprehensive School requires that the Integrated Comprehensive School has reception capacities. As a rule, a change is only possible at the end of a school semester, in special cases the transition can also take place at another time. A transition to grade 10 is only possible in special cases and only at the beginning of the school year or the school semester.

In the event of refusal of admission, an objection procedure is admissible.

If you would like to voluntarily switch from a Realschule plus or a Gymnasium to an Integrated Comprehensive School, you should first ask the Integrated Comprehensive School whether there is an admission option there, because Integrated Comprehensive Schools often no longer have any admission capacities. After that, you can make a registration. The school will tell you what documents it needs to make the admission decision. The school management decides which grade level, class and courses the student can be admitted to. As a rule, after six weeks, the class conference decides whether the performance shown by the pupil so far justifies remaining in the provisionally attended grade levels and courses.  

Since the change is usually only possible during the two school semesters, you should register at the Integrated Comprehensive School in good time.  

The admission decision is usually made within a few days.
