Apply for reimbursement of costs for school transportation due to disability

For pupils with special educational needs, the type and degree of disability must be taken into account regardless of the type of school attended. In addition, accompanying persons are to be used on the school bus if this is necessary according to the type and degree of disability.

The districts and independent cities are responsible for school transport. In principle, all pupils are entitled to school transport if they are resident in Rhineland-Palatinate and cannot reasonably be expected to travel to school without using a means of transport.

Regardless of the type of school attended, the type and degree of disability must also be taken into account when determining the reasonableness of the journey to school. When transporting pupils with special educational needs on the school bus, accompanying persons must be provided if this is necessary according to the type and degree of disability.

In the case of additional disability-related expenses, there may be an individual entitlement to integration assistance benefits in individual cases.

As a rule, the application for reimbursement of travel costs must be submitted to the school authority of the district or city in which the school is located. The necessary application forms can also be obtained from the school.

The application forms are provided by the school transport providers (district or independent city).

The journey to school is not reasonable for the pupil and/or an accompanying person is necessary due to the type and degree of disability.
