    Description

    Attendance at a special school is possible for children with disabilities at the decision of the parents. The prerequisite is that the school authority has identified special educational needs. The procedure for determining special educational needs can also be initiated by the parents. This requires an informal application to the responsible primary school when registering for school attendance. Further action is provided by the school management of the primary school.

    Required documents

    The data collected during school registration is sufficient. It is advisable to allow the school to exchange information with the attending day care centre about the previous course of education so that this can be taken into account in the decision (release from confidentiality).

    Prerequisites

    No prerequisites are required if the parents wish to apply.

    An objection can be lodged with the competent school authority against the decision of the school authority as to whether and in which special educational priority special educational needs exist.

    Procedure

    In each individual case, a special education diagnosis is carried out by a special school teacher who is commissioned by a special school. The effects of disability on school learning are collected, analysed and evaluated. The special school teacher prepares a special education report, which is included in the decision of the school authority together with further reports and, if necessary, an opinion of the school medical service at the health authority. The parents are informed about the results and advised about possible places of learning. The school authority decides whether and in which special education priority there is a need for support. Parents decide whether their child should attend a special school or participate in inclusive education.

    Deadlines

    The application must be submitted by 31.1. of the year at the latest.

    Processing time

    The processing time depends on the individual case and the necessary diagnostic surveys.

    There are no fees.
