If you are a citizen of the Union, you can also apply for a seat in the European Parliament in Germany under certain conditions. You are eligible if you live or otherwise habitually reside in the Federal Republic of Germany, are a citizen of a member state of the European Union on election day and have reached the age of eighteen. Furthermore, you must not be excluded from eligibility (passive right to vote). Such an exclusion exists if you are excluded from the right to vote in the Federal Republic of Germany or in your country of origin or if you are ineligible or unable to hold public office in the Federal Republic of Germany as a result of a court ruling. You are also ineligible if, under certain circumstances, you are not eligible to vote as a result of an individual decision in your home member state.
