Description
You can apply for a seat in the European Parliament in Germany if you are eligible. The individual requirements depend on whether you are German within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law (Grundgesetz - GG) or a citizen of another Member State of the European Union.

Eligible German or eligible German:
You are eligible to vote if you are German or German within the meaning of the Basic Law on election day and have reached the age of eighteen. Furthermore, you must not be excluded from eligibility (passive right to vote). Such an exclusion exists if, as a result of a judge's decision, you do not have the right to vote or the eligibility or the ability to hold public office.
Eligible Union citizen:
If you are a citizen of the Union, you can also apply for a seat in the European Parliament in Germany under certain conditions. You are eligible if you live or otherwise habitually reside in the Federal Republic of Germany, are a citizen of a member state of the European Union on election day and have reached the age of eighteen. Furthermore, you must not be excluded from eligibility (passive right to vote). Such an exclusion exists if you are excluded from the right to vote in the Federal Republic of Germany or in your country of origin or if you are ineligible or unable to hold public office in the Federal Republic of Germany as a result of a court ruling. You are also ineligible if, under certain circumstances, you are not eligible to vote as a result of an individual decision in your home member state.

Procedure
The eligibility of German candidates for election is verified by a certificate of eligibility issued by the municipal authority.
EU citizens from another Member State of the European Union who are standing for election in the Federal Republic of Germany must provide proof of their eligibility for election by means of certificates of residence or other habitual abode and of non-exclusion from eligibility for election.

The deadlines for the submission of election proposals must be observed.
