be entered on the electoral roll for the European elections as a citizen of the Union

As an EU citizen living in Germany, you can take part in the European elections if you are registered on the electoral roll.

If you are a citizen of the European Union living in Germany and want to take part in the European elections, you must be entered in the electoral register. This is either done ex officio or you must apply to be entered.

If you were entered on the electoral roll at a previous European election and have not moved abroad in the meantime, you will be entered on the electoral roll ex officio and do not need to submit a new application.

In all other cases, you must apply to be entered on the electoral roll.

Responsibility lies with the municipal authority.

If you are not entered in the electoral roll ex officio, you must submit an application in accordance with Annex 2A of the European Electoral Regulations.

You must submit the application in writing and sign it personally and by hand.

You will be entered in the electoral roll ex officio if you

• are entitled to vote on election day,
• have been entered in the voters' register at your request in a previous European election,
• have not moved abroad in the meantime.

You will be entered in the voters' register on request if you

• are entitled to vote on election day and
• submit an application for entry in the voters' register to the competent municipal authority in due form and time.

If, as a citizen of the Union, you are not entered in the electoral roll ex officio, you must submit an application for entry in the electoral roll in accordance with Annex 2A of the European Electoral Regulations (EuWO) to the competent municipal authority.

The municipal authority will decide on your application and send you a voter's notification or a rejection notice.

You must apply to be entered on the electoral roll by the 21st day before the election at the latest.

There are no fees.
