As an EU citizen living in Germany, you can take part in the European elections if you are registered on the electoral roll.
Description
If you are a citizen of the European Union living in Germany and want to take part in the European elections, you must be entered in the electoral register. This is either done ex officio or you must apply to be entered.
If you were entered on the electoral roll at a previous European election and have not moved abroad in the meantime, you will be entered on the electoral roll ex officio and do not need to submit a new application.
In all other cases, you must apply to be entered on the electoral roll.

Required documents
If you are not entered in the electoral roll ex officio, you must submit an application in accordance with Annex 2A of the European Electoral Regulations.
Forms
You must submit the application in writing and sign it personally and by hand.
Prerequisites
You will be entered in the electoral roll ex officio if you
- are entitled to vote on election day,
- have been entered in the voters' register at your request in a previous European election,
- have not moved abroad in the meantime.
You will be entered in the voters' register on request if you
- are entitled to vote on election day and
- submit an application for entry in the voters' register to the competent municipal authority in due form and time.

Procedure
If, as a citizen of the Union, you are not entered in the electoral roll ex officio, you must submit an application for entry in the electoral roll in accordance with Annex 2A of the European Electoral Regulations (EuWO) to the competent municipal authority.
The municipal authority will decide on your application and send you a voter's notification or a rejection notice.
Deadlines
You must apply to be entered on the electoral roll by the 21st day before the election at the latest.
