Dog ownership deregistration

Deregistration of dog ownership is always necessary if you give up keeping the dog in your municipality of residence. You can obtain further information via the location search of the municipality responsible for you.

The keeping of a dog must be deregistered if:

- the dog has died.
- you have given the dog to someone else.
- you have given the dog to an animal shelter.
- the dog has escaped and you assume that it will not return.

Deregistration and the return of the dog tax tag must be done at the responsible office.

Please contact the municipal administration of the municipality not belonging to an association, the administration of the association of municipalities or the city administration in cities not belonging to a district or large towns belonging to a district.

Documents may be required. Please contact the responsible office.

In principle, however, the dog tax stamp must be returned when deregistering.

You can obtain the relevant forms for deregistering dogs from the responsible office.

The deregistration must take place immediately at the end of dog ownership.
