Make identity card notifications

If anything changes with regard to your identity card or the data entered on it, you must report this immediately.

    Description

As a German citizen over the age of 16, you are required to have an identity card or a valid passport document. The data on your ID card, except for your address and height, must always be up to date, otherwise it will become invalid.

Your ID card loses its validity if the personal data, except for your address and height, is no longer up to date. If your ID card is lost or stolen, you must also report this.

You must report the following to your Citizens' Registration Office:

    • Your name has changed and you do not have another valid identity document with the new name.
    • You have lost your identity card.
    • Your ID card has been stolen.
    • You have reported a loss and recovered your ID card.

Note: You can also report the loss or theft of your ID card to the police.

If you report a loss or theft, the authorities will automatically block your online ID card. Online identification and on-site reading are no longer possible after blocking.

If you change your name and your ID card is lost or stolen, you should apply for a new one.
