After-school care

Here you will find information on after-school care for your child in elementary school or day care centers.

Every child in Thuringia is entitled to after-school care from the time they start school until they finish elementary school. Care can be provided in after-school care centers at elementary school and in day care centers. After-school care in Thuringia is an organizational part of the elementary school and attendance is voluntary. It sees itself as an institution that complements families and supports teaching, promotes children's independence, creates the conditions for practising social behavior, acting responsibly and pursuing individual needs and inclinations.

Primary school children are entitled to support in an after-school care center at an elementary school from Monday to Friday with a daily care time of ten hours, taking into account class time.

Admission to the after-school care center:

Parents must apply in writing to the relevant elementary school by May 31 for the following school year to admit their children to after-school care for the period before the first and after the last lesson.

Parents contribute to the after-school care fees, which are made up of personnel and material costs. The income and number of children in a family are taken into account in an appropriate manner. Information on the amount of the after-school care costs is provided by the school authority.
