Aircraft noise (civil)
Description
Do you live near an airport? Then you will be familiar with the noise caused by airplanes and helicopters taking off and landing.
This aircraft noise must be distinguished from so-called ground noise, which is caused by the movement of vehicles on the airfield or by car traffic at the airport.
In Germany, take-offs and landings are generally only permitted at airfields (compulsory use of airfields). This does not apply in cases of assistance in the event of danger (e.g. for emergency landings of rescue helicopters). Exceptions may also be granted in special cases.
On the basis of the Aircraft Noise Act, so-called noise protection zones must be established around civil and military airfields. These are divided into 2 protection zones for the day and one protection zone for the night. The Aircraft Noise Act also regulates
- Restrictions on building use
- Requirements for noise protection and ventilation for facilities and homes in need of protection
- Reimbursement of expenses for structural noise protection measures and
- Compensation for adverse effects on outdoor living areas at new or substantially altered airports.
