Participate in training on the legal and technical basis for practicing the security industry

You must provide documented proof of completed instruction in the security industry if you are employed and perform security tasks in the security industry on your own authority.

The training takes place at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and comprises at least 40 hours of instruction, during which you must be present without absences. Among other things, you will be taught your legal rights and obligations as a security guard as well as techniques for dealing with people in conflict situations.

The course is taught in German, so you must have at least B1 level language skills.

Following the training, you will have to answer written and oral comprehension questions on the content in order to receive the certificate. With the certificate, you will also be entered in the register of security guards.

To open a security company or work in certain areas, such as refugee accommodation, nightclubs or other public places, you will need to take the more extensive security guard proficiency test.

If you have a qualification in a relevant training occupation, for example as a specialist for protection and security, you do not need to provide additional proof of training.

The Chambers of Industry and Commerce are responsible for carrying out the information procedures and for carrying out the examination of competence.

It does not matter which Chamber of Commerce and Industry has participated in an information procedure; the certificates of participation issued are valid nationwide. The same applies to the competence test.

The Chambers of Industry and Commerce of Frankfurt am Main, Lahn-Dill, Hanau-Gelnhausen-Schlüchtern, Fulda and Kassel offer instruction and competence tests in Hesse. For the Chambers of Industry and Commerce Wiesbaden and Darmstadt, the IHK Frankfurt am Main offers the competence examination and information. For the Chambers of Industry and Commerce Giessen-Friedberg and Limburg, the Lahn-Dill Chamber of Industry and Commerce offers the competence examination and information.
The Offenbach Chamber of Industry and Commerce only offers the information procedure. The competence examination is carried out by the Frankfurt am Main Chambers of Industry and Commerce for the Offenbach Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Registration for the information or examination takes place directly at the Chambers of Commerce and Industry. This is possible nationwide. The information or competence test can be completed before the application is submitted to the Public Order Office.

Instruction in security services is provided and certified by the IHK.

• You register for security instruction at a IHK
• Instruction is provided by the IHK, is oral and lasts approximately 40 hours.
• After participation without any absences, you receive the certificate
• Notification of award of certificate will also be communicated to the Register of Security Personnel.

Afterwards, you are allowed to be employed as a security guard.
