Trade register, information

The Trade Register, a register of local businesses, is kept by the local authorities. There is an obligation to notify the registration, re-registration and de-registration of a trade, a branch or a dependent branch.
The transmission of the simple information contains the 3 basic data name/company, address and activity of the trader and is transmitted on request without further checks.

Extended information data, such as private residence, date of birth, start and, if applicable, end of activity, may be transmitted to non-public bodies (e.g. private individuals) provided that the person requesting information demonstrates a credible legal interest (§ 14 para. 8 GewO). In addition to the conclusive submission of the person requesting information (information as to why extended data e.g. residential address is required, etc.), the submission of relevant documents (e.g. purchase contract, reminder) is also required.

The fee for information from the trade register is usually between 10.00 euros and 30.50  euros; if investigations by the field service become necessary, the amount of the fee is calculated according to the time spent.
In the case of information about a determinable group of persons, the so-called group information, the fee is usually between 7.50 euros - 15.00 euros per person, but at least 76.50   euros.

The trade register is not a public register. As such, it does not enjoy public faith such as the commercial register.
