German schools abroad

    The school system abroad is a joint task of the Federation and the Länder: The Federal Republic of Germany and the Länder of the Federal Republic of Germany support more than 140 recognised German schools abroad worldwide with German school leaving certificates recognised by the "Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany" (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs - KMK) as well as schools which have received the German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany. and/or II. Along with the work of the Goethe-Instituts and the German Academic Exchange Service, German school work abroad is a fundamental building block and one of the most sustainable instruments of cultural relations and education policy.


    The German Schools Abroad are open to German-speaking children and young people whose parents work abroad for a limited period of time. At the meeting schools, children from the Länder can also obtain a German school leaving certificate.

    In Hesse, the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs is responsible for the school system. Hessian teachers who are interested in working in the foreign school service can find corresponding information and references on the website of the Hessian Ministry of Education.

    Das Hessische Ministerium für Kultus, Bildung und Chancen ist die oberste Schulaufsichtsbehörde und übernimmt zentrale Planungs- und Steuerungsaufgaben in der Bildungspolitik wie beispielsweise die Bildungsplanung, die Entwicklung von Kerncurricula, die Lehrerstellenzuweisung und die Konzeption der Lehrerausbildung und Lehrerfortbildung.
