Animal by-products - disposal (rendering operations)

Dead pets and certain waste of animal origin, such as offal waste or leftovers from restaurants or canteen kitchens, must be properly disposed of.

Slaughterhouse waste as well as kitchens and catering waste from gastronomy and canteen kitchens containing animal parts (e.g. meat residues, sausages) are also subject to legally regulated disposal.

Dead pets do not belong in the organic waste bin or on the compost.

If you have your own property and it is not in a watershed area, you may also bury your pet on your property. The carcase must be covered by a layer of soil at least 50 cm thick.

Found a dead pet? If the animal is on your own property, you as the property owner have to dispose of the animal. If the animal is in public traffic, please contact the local regulatory authority.

If dead pets are disposed of in specialist farms, costs are incurred which must be borne by the pet owner.
