Gun license

If you want to carry a firearm in public, i.e. outside your home or business premises, your pacified property or a shooting range, you need a firearms license. This also applies to alarm, irritant and signal weapons ("small" weapons license).

The firearms license is issued by the weapons authority in your district administration or the administration of your district-free city. There you can also find out about documents and forms to be brought along.

Requirements for obtaining a firearms licence:

• age of majority (18 years),
• Reliability
• Personal suitability,
• Proof of need,*
• Proof of liability insurance,*
• Proof of weapons technology and weapons law expertise.*

* Not required for "small" firearms license.
