School transport
Description
Responsible for school transport are the municipalities that are school authorities, i.e. the district-free cities and the rural districts. They are responsible for the pupils living in their area.
Pupils in primary school and middle school (lower secondary level) are entitled to reimbursement of travel expenses; this usually includes the first year of vocational school (elementary level). Pupils of the upper school (upper secondary level) are not entitled to pupil transport.
A cost assumption for the school transport is only considered with a minimum length of the way to school: The way to school of primary school pupils must be over 2 kilometres long, for pupils from grade 5 onwards this must have a length of over 3 kilometres. Only if the way to school poses a particular risk or if the pupil is disabled can costs be reimbursed for a shorter distance.
As a rule, the school authority has to handle the school transport via local public transport.
The costs for the way from the apartment to the responsible school are reimbursed. For secondary school students, the costs for the way to school to the nearest school, where the desired diploma can be achieved at the end of the middle school, are reimbursed. If the parents decide to attend a school other than the responsible or nearest school, a maximum of the costs that would have been incurred if they had attended the responsible or nearest school will be reimbursed.

There are no reasons for approving the assumption of school transportation costs:
- Foreign language sequence
- Attendance at the Förderstufe
- All-day care offer
- special lessons/G-8 branch
- denominational orientation
- Attendance at a Realschule, a Gymnasium
- Recommendation, e.g. from the elementary school, to attend a specific school from year 5 onwards
- Permission to attend a school other than the nearest responsible school
Approval or rejection is independent of income. Special circumstances cannot be taken into account.
Example:
There is no entitlement if your child attends a grammar school further away and the walking distance to the nearest comprehensive school with a grammar school branch is less than 3 km.
Reason:
The desired qualification at the end of middle school can also be achieved at the comprehensive school less than 3 km away.
Example:
There is an entitlement if your child attends an integrated comprehensive school even though there is a cooperative comprehensive school in your immediate vicinity.
Reason:
Comparability between schools is only possible if they are the same type of school

Zur Förderung des Radverkehrs verbessert der Landkreis Kassel mit der Erarbeitung eines umfassenden Radverkehrskonzeptes und der Ernennung eines Radverkehrsbeauftragten die Rahmenbedingungen für den zukünftigen Radverkehr in der Region.
Zu den weiteren Aufgaben gehört die Erstattung von Schülerfahrtkosten von Schülerinnen und Schülern, die im Gebiet des Landkreises Kassel wohnen (Schulwegkostenträger nach dem Hessischen Schulgesetz).
Schließlich obliegt dem Fachdienst die Förderung von Sportvereinen. Insbesondere werden die Beschaffung langlebiger Sportgeräte, der vereinseigene Sportstättenbau und der Jugendsport gefördert.

The application forms are available from the school secretariats. Please state on the application form from when or for what period you are applying for the transportation costs to be covered.
Please fill in the application form completely and legibly. Do not forget to sign it.
Please return the application to the school office. After the school has confirmed the school attendance, the application will be forwarded to the Specialist Service for Transport and Sport for processing and decision.
