Certified printout from the birth register exhibition

You can apply for a certified printout from the birth register at the registry office.

A certified printout from the birth register reflects all the data entered by the registry office in connection with the birth. You will receive the certificate, including any marginal remarks, either as

• new printout from the electronic register (if already kept at your registry office) or
• Copy or verbatim copy of the birth record from the birth register.

In addition to birth information (including time of birth and additional parental information), the printout also includes subsequent changes, such as adoption or name changes.
The exact time (hour and minute) of your birth may also be communicated to you by the registry office on request, without a certificate having to be issued.

• Identity card or passport (in case of written order: certified copy)
• in case of application / collection by representative: written power of attorney of the authorized person, whose identity card
• where applicable, proof of legal interest

The personal data of the civil registers are subject to data protection. Certified register printouts can therefore only be issued

• for persons to whom the entry refers

as well as their

• Spouses
• life partners (within the meaning of the LPartG),
• ancestors and descendants (such as children and grandchildren),
• Siblings, if they can prove a legitimate interest.

Other persons, including close relatives such as aunts and uncles, only receive a document if they can credibly demonstrate a legal interest (examples: letter from the probate court, court judgment or enforceable title).

Applicants must be at least 16 years old.

• Application for a judicial decision to the district court responsible for the registry office, § 49 Abs. 1 PStG.

Personal application

• Go to the registry office that certified the birth.
• For legitimation, you present your identity card or passport.
• As a rule, you pay the fee in advance when applying at the registry office.

A person you trust can order and pick up the certificate for you, your representative presents your own identity card or passport in addition to a written power of attorney.

Application by post or fax

• Send an informal letter to the responsible registry office with the request to copy a certified printout from the birth register. Depending on the offer of the city or municipality, you will also find application forms on the Internet.
• Your letter must contain the following information:
  • Surname, first name
  • Date and place of birth
  • Surname, first name of parents
  • if known: registry office and certification number
• Attach a certified copy of your identity card or passport to the letter
• When you send the certificate, you will receive a fee notice.

certified printout from the birth register (first copy): Fee 12,00 EUR

when applying for further copies at the same time, unless the municipality has set a different fee by statute: Fee 6,00 EUR

Exhibition for statutory pension insurance: Fee free of charge

The certified printout from the birth register replaces the former parentage certificate (abolished on 01.01.2009).
