Description
Youth work promotes the development of young people's personalities and prepares them for life in the community. It helps them to recognize, respect and experience values and strengthens their ability to act on their own responsibility. Youth work ties in with the interests of young people and is co-determined by them.
Youth work is an independent part of youth welfare. It performs the educational and training tasks in accordance with § 11 SGB VIII and represents the concerns and interests of young people in public.
In concrete terms, youth work can be understood as a wide range of more or less pedagogical, non-commercial, experiential and experience-related activities in the leisure time of children and young people. These activities are characterized by a high degree of self-determination on the part of children and young people. In concrete terms, this is reflected in the fact that youth work is characterized to a particularly high degree by the voluntary commitment of young people.
Youth work offers are supported by independent (youth associations, clubs, initiatives, etc.) and public providers (youth welfare offices).

Almost every town in the district of Kassel has clubs and associations with youth departments that offer activities for young people and children. The largest providers are the sports clubs organized in the State Sports Association of Hesse, which have the Hess. Sportjugend based in Kassel, the voluntary fire departments and the large aid organizations (Red Cross, Johanniter, ASB, Malteser, etc.). However, numerous smaller clubs also offer activities. The large churches also organize children's and youth work throughout the district of Kassel, in some cases also in subdivisions such as the YMCA, TenSing, Christian Scouts, etc. The local pastor can provide information here.

The youth development department of the district of Kassel also prepares an extensive annual vacation leisure program for children and young people in the district's own homes as well as nature sports-oriented activities in France and Sweden under the guidance of experienced supervisors. At the same time, it offers numerous courses to train interested parties as youth group leaders in accordance with national guidelines, who receive the youth leader card ("Juleica") as a certificate. Further training enables the card to be extended.
Twice a year, the Jugendbildungswerk (JBW) of the district of Kassel presents a broad program of inexpensive seminars and educational vacations for extracurricular learning, which is published in a brochure together with the leisure activities offered by youth development (available in all town halls).
All full-time specialists in local municipal youth work and district youth development are happy to advise interested children, young people and parents on any questions they may have and also provide technical support to local politicians.

In enger Abstimmung mit der Jugendförderung ist das Jugendbildungswerk innerhalb des Jugendamtes schwerpunktmäßig zuständig für die außerschulische politische Kinder- und Jugendbildung durch Seminare und andere Angebotsformen.
Sie initiiert und beteiligt sich an Aus- und Fortbildungen sowohl für Ehrenamtliche unter Einbezug der Jugendleitercardausbildung (Juleica) als auch für hauptamtliche Kräfte aus den kreisangehörigen Städten, Gemeinden, Vereinen und Verbänden.
In zahlreichen Aufgabenfeldern arbeitet das Jugendbildungswerk in Netzwerkstrukturen und kooperiert mit den Schulen.
