Youth work / youth education
Description
Youth work promotes the development of young people's personalities and prepares them for life in the community. It helps them to recognize, respect and experience values and strengthens their ability to act on their own responsibility. Youth work ties in with the interests of young people and is co-determined by them.
Youth work is an independent part of youth welfare. It performs the educational and training tasks in accordance with § 11 SGB VIII and represents the concerns and interests of young people in public.
In concrete terms, youth work can be understood as a wide range of more or less pedagogical, non-commercial, experiential and experience-related activities in the leisure time of children and young people. These activities are characterized by a high degree of self-determination on the part of children and young people. In concrete terms, this is reflected in the fact that youth work is characterized to a particularly high degree by the voluntary commitment of young people.
Youth work offers are supported by independent (youth associations, clubs, initiatives, etc.) and public providers (youth welfare offices).
Information for Wetter (Hessen): Jugendarbeit / Jugendbildung
The Youth Development Service offers a wide and varied range of educational seminars, vacation camps and training events every year. These promote the development of young people into independent personalities and help them to play an active role in shaping society.
The vacations are sometimes the best time of the year for schoolchildren. No homework, exams or study stress, a long night's sleep and the chance to meet up with friends. For many years now, youth development has been offering exciting and varied vacation camps in the popular Glücksburg and Schuby vacation camps on the Baltic Sea and in Wolfshausen near Marburg.
Youth education is part of the "three-pillar model" of youth development. Socio-politically relevant topics that are current and important for young people are discussed as part of freely advertised events and with cooperation partners (for example with school classes).
Key skills such as self-confidence, the ability to cooperate and work in a team, the ability to deal with conflict and criticism, an understanding of democracy, media skills and much more are taught.
Based on the Hessian Child and Youth Welfare Act, youth education aims to help young people acquire life skills and develop their identity. It should help young people to recognize, respect and live by values. Youth education should prepare young people for their lives in society and at work as well as in partnership, marriage and family. It should also enable young people to perceive their personal and social living conditions and to participate in shaping social life. Youth education also works towards reducing social disadvantages and empowers young people to take responsibility, show initiative and get involved together.
