Traffic space restriction - approval

Approval must be obtained for every measure that requires the restriction and special use of public traffic space.

If vehicle traffic is affected by the traffic space restriction, a traffic authority order for the traffic safety of the traffic space restriction must generally also be obtained in addition to the approval of the special use of the road space used. A traffic sign plan must be submitted to the road traffic authority for the necessary traffic measures to be ordered by the road traffic authority, unless there is a suitable standard plan or the work is only of short duration and small scale and the work only has a minor impact on road traffic. The securing of road works is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the guidelines for the securing of road works (RSA).

You usually submit your written application to the responsible road and civil engineering office in your district or city. They will also tell you which documents or evidence you need to submit in detail.

You should enquire in advance at the building or public order office of your local authority or city administration as to which approval jurisdiction your project falls under.

Fees are incurred for the approval of the special use and, if applicable, for the arrangement of traffic control measures.
