Obligation to wear seat belts and helmets - Exemption

In order to protect road users, the legislator and legislator has prescribed that seat belts must be worn while driving and that protective helmets must be worn when driving motorcycles.

However, it is possible to be exempted from this obligation upon request. The resulting significant security risk shall be borne by the applicant.

They may be exempted from the obligation to wear seat belts ,

• if it is not possible to wear seat belts for health reasons.
• if the height is less than 150 cm.
• You can be exempted from the obligation to wear a helmet ,
• if it is not possible to wear a safety helmet for health reasons.

The road traffic authority responsible for your place of residence.

If the conditions for exemption are of a health nature, a medical certificate must be submitted stating that the exemption to be applied for is absolutely necessary for medical reasons. A diagnosis need not be included in the certificate.
For heights below 150 cm, a medical certificate with the measured height must also be brought.

The exemption is granted revocable and usually for a limited period of one year, unless the medical certificate states that the state of health will no longer improve; the exemption shall then be granted for an indefinite period.

The decision may be given free of charge; otherwise the fees are in the range of 10.20 Euro - 767.00  Euro.
