Apply for an international driving license

In certain countries, you will need an international driving license in addition to your EU driving license.

For temporary stays in certain countries outside the EU/EEA, you need an international driving license. The international driving license is only a translation of the national driving license and is therefore only valid in conjunction with it.

Contact the driving license authority of the district or city in which you have your main residence

• Identity card or passport, if necessary with registration certificate
• valid EU driving license
• a current biometric photo in accordance with the PassV (45 x 35 mm, portrait format, front view)

• You have your main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany
• You are in possession of an EU driving license
• You must be at least 18 years old

Please apply for an international driving license at the driving license authority responsible for you (usually that of your place of residence)

There is no deadline. Please apply for your international driving license in good time before your stay abroad.

The processing time depends on the workload of the respective driving license authority.

The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (fee numbers 207 and 126.2).
