National allowance for the blind

The state allowance for the blind is a benefit from the state of Hesse that is granted irrespective of income and assets. Under certain conditions, it is paid to people with civilian blindness, people with equivalent status to blind people and people with severe visual impairments. It is used to compensate for additional expenses caused by disability.

Landeswohlfahrtsverband Hessen, Department for People with Physical or Sensory Disabilities - Regional Management for Blind or Significantly Visually Impaired People -

-You can obtain the application for blindness benefit under the State Blindness Benefit Act directly from the LWV Hessen.
-An ophthalmologist's certificate.

Benefits can only be granted after the application has been received by the Landeswohlfahrtsverband Hessen.

The costs for the ophthalmologist's certificate are to be borne by the applicant.

In the case of higher blindness-related additional expenses, you can apply for blindness assistance benefits in addition to the flat-rate state blindness benefit in accordance with § 72 SGB XII. See also the keyword " Assistance for the blind/additional benefit".
