Apply for an express passport

Do you need a passport at short notice and can't wait 2 weeks or more for a regular passport? Then you can apply for your passport using the express order procedure.

If you need a passport urgently, you can apply for it using the express order procedure. If the passport manufacturer receives the passport application by 12:00 noon, the delivery time for your new passport is usually 3 working days until it is ready for collection from the domestic authority. You pay a surcharge for this.

The express passport is a regular passport with an accelerated ordering and production process. If you need a passport immediately, you can apply for a temporary passport. However, this does not have all the functions of the regular passport and has a significantly shorter period of validity.

If you are traveling with children, you can also apply for their passports express.

You can apply for your passport using the express procedure at your local citizens' office at your main place of residence. You can also make such an application at any other citizens' office if you have an important reason. There is an additional surcharge for this.

The responsibility lies with the passport authority (Lord Mayor/Mayor) of the municipality of residence.

• Biometric digital passport photo: taken on site at the authority or by a registered domestic photo service provider (photographer). Different regulations may apply abroad and a paper passport photo may still be accepted.

  • if there is only one parent or legal guardian, additional proof of custody

• You have German citizenship.
• You are present in person when you apply for your passport.
  • If you are applying for a passport for your child or someone you look after, they must also be present when you apply.
• for children under the age of 18:
  • You have the right of custody.
• There must be no grounds for refusing a passport. This includes, for example, the assumption that by leaving the country
  • criminal prosecution,
  • enforcement of a sentence or
  • to evade a statutory maintenance obligation.

• You can only apply for a passport using the express order procedure in person at the Citizens' Registration Office.
• The application will be filled out by the office staff on site. All you have to do is sign it.
• When you apply, your fingerprints will be taken solely for the purpose of storing them in the passport chip.
  • Usually a flat print of the left and right index finger
  • Children under the age of 6 do not have to give a fingerprint.
• A signature must be provided by children aged 10 and over; younger children are permitted to sign if they are able to write.
• You will be notified when you can collect your Express Passport.
• You can authorize another person of legal age in writing to collect it from the authorities.
• For important reasons, you can also apply for the document in another municipality or at a German diplomatic mission abroad.

The basic fees for the passport are doubled if

• the passport has to be issued outside official office hours or
• you do not apply for the passport to be issued at your main place of residence.

Express passport application if you are under 24 years of age.: Fee 69,50 EUR (The amount is to be paid in advance)

Express passport application if you are 24 years or older: Fee 102,00 EUR (The amount is to be paid in advance)

Surcharge for a passport in the express order procedure with 48 pages:: Fee 22,00 EUR (The amount is to be paid in advance)
