Apply for day registration for a vehicle

If you want to register a new vehicle for road use for one day, you must apply for a day registration at the registration authority.

Would you like to register a new vehicle for one day on the road? Then you must apply for a one-day registration at your local registration authority. A day registration is the first registration of a vehicle subject to registration. It is valid for the duration of the day for which you have applied for the day registration.

You can apply for a day registration as a

• Citizens
• Companies, for example
  • car dealership
  • Fleet operator
  • Insurance company
  • automobile club
  • Registration service provider

If you have a day registration, your license plates for that day do not require any stamp stickers or sticker holders. If you use the vehicle on public roads, you must display the temporary registration certificate in the vehicle so that it is clearly legible from the outside. This also applies to unlocked vehicles. In the case of motorcycles, you can, for example, place the certificate in the tank bag with a transparent window or in a transparent cover attached with adhesive tape.

As soon as the date of first registration has expired, the vehicle is deregistered without any further application on your part. You may then no longer drive the vehicle on the road.

You cannot travel abroad with a day registration.

• The vehicle is subject to registration.
• The vehicle has not been registered before.
• The vehicle has the following documents:
  • for EU type approval, certificate of conformity
  • in the case of national type approval, registration certificate part II with registered type and variant/version key number
  • In the case of individual vehicle approval, certificate of individual approval
• You have no significant outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration processes.
• You have no significant vehicle tax debts. This also includes late payment penalties, interest and late payment penalties.

If you apply for day registration on site:

• You or your representative submit an application for day registration of your new vehicle at the local vehicle registration office.
• The following data is recorded on site during the day registration:
• for natural persons:
  • Surname, maiden name, first name
  • if applicable, religious or stage name
  • Date and place of birth or, if this is not known, state of birth
  • Gender and address
• for legal persons and authorities:
  • Name or designation
  • Address
• for associations of persons (e.g. partnerships, corporations, registered associations):
  • Representation with data of the natural or legal persons
  • Name of the association
• As part of the procedure, an automatic check is carried out for
  • Motor vehicle tax arrears
  • Fee arrears according to the respective state law
• After a successful one-day registration, you will receive a provisional registration certificate and the vehicle's license plate number from the registration authority.
• You have the license plates made.
• Once the license plates have been affixed, you can use your vehicle immediately until the end of the day.
