    Description

    In order to take the master craftsman's examination in a craft that does not require a license, you must submit an application for admission.

    In order to be admitted to the master craftsman examination, you must have passed the journeyman's examination or a final examination. Alternatively, you must have a certificate of equivalence for foreign qualifications or for qualifications from comparable vocational training courses.

    The master craftsman examination determines whether you

    • can practise the craft
    • can manage independently,
    • can train apprentices properly.

    You can apply for admission to the master craftsman examination either in writing or electronically.

    The master craftsman examination consists of 4 parts. The following knowledge is tested in the examination parts:

    • practical
    • theoretical technical,
    • business management
    • pedagogical knowledge

    Once you have passed the examination, you may use the title of Master Craftsman and receive a certificate. Once you have obtained the master craftsman title, you may also use the title Bachelor Professional.

    If you fail a part of the examination, you may repeat it up to 3 times.

    - the Chamber of Lawyers, Patent Attorneys and Notaries as well as the Notary's Office for the vocational training of specialists in the field of law,

    - the Chamber of Auditors and the Chamber of Tax Consultants for the vocational training of professionals in the field of auditing and tax consultancy,

    - the Chambers of Physicians, Dentists, Veterinarians and Pharmacists for the vocational training of healthcare professionals.

    Required documents

    • Proof that justifies the competence of the Master Craftsman Examination Board
    • Proof that you have passed the journeyman's examination or final examination
    • Depending on the competent authority, you may need to submit further documents

    Prerequisites

    You will be admitted to the master craftsman examination if you meet one of the following requirements:

    • You must have passed the journeyman's examination or a final examination in a recognized training occupation
    • You have a certificate of equivalence in accordance with the Crafts Code The requirements for the 3rd part of the examination do not apply.

    Procedure

    If you would like to take the master craftsman's examination in a craft or similar trade that does not require a license, you should obtain information in advance from the competent authority and prepare for the examination accordingly. The competent authority is usually the relevant Chamber of Crafts.

    • In order to be admitted, you must meet the relevant requirements.
    • To be admitted to the examination, you must submit an application to the competent body. Submit the necessary documents together with your application.
    • The master craftsman examination consists of 4 parts:
      • Part 1: the examination of the masterly execution of the work customary in the respective craft
      • Part 2: the examination of the required theoretical knowledge in the respective trade
      • Part 3: the examination of the necessary business, commercial and legal knowledge
      • Part 4: the examination of the required vocational and work education knowledge
    • The examination is conducted and assessed by the master craftsman examination board. The master craftsman examination board is the state examination authority at the headquarters of the relevant Chamber of Crafts.
    • Once you have passed the master craftsman examination, you are entitled to use the title of master craftsman and receive a certificate.
    • If you fail a part of the examination, you can repeat this part of the examination up to 3 times.

    The master craftsman examination incurs fees and possibly other costs. Depending on the chamber, these may be borne by the relevant chamber.
