Apply for a replacement following notification of loss of the exemption permit for vehicles and vehicle combinations

If you have lost your exemption permit or it has gone missing, you can apply for a new one from the competent authority.

If your vehicle or vehicle combination does not fully comply with the construction regulations or specifications of the Vehicle Registration Ordinance, you will require an exemption permit for registration.

As a rule, you must carry the exemption permit with you as a document when driving and hand it over to a responsible person on request.

If you have lost your exemption permit or it has been lost in any other way, you must apply for a replacement from the competent authority.

To obtain a replacement certificate, please contact the office that issued the exemption permit.

• for legal entities: Extract from the commercial register
• Vehicle identification number (VIN)
• License plate number of the vehicle
• Registration certificate or operating license of the vehicle combination
• Expert opinion from a testing organization on the granting of a special permit, including details and justification of the deviations from the construction regulations
• for vehicles with a maximum speed of more than 20 km/h: insurance confirmation

In Hesse, it is generally sufficient for the permit holder to report the loss with reasons. In individual cases, please contact the responsible licensing authority to find out which documents are required and which may be dispensable.
